What

The beyond.uptake Data Fellows Program is a 4-month fellowship designed to connect data leaders at non-profits, foundations,  and social enterprises to experts, mentors and peers in data science. The fellowship begins with a week in Chicago to meet with mentors, learn hard skills in data science, and network with like-minded data for good professionals. Fellows identify a project inside their organizations to work out, honing the skills they have learned. Their Uptake mentors will support them for 4 months as they work on the project. The fellowship concludes with a gathering in Chicago where fellows demo and celebrate their work. All expenses are covered by Uptake.

Why

Social enterprises are attacking some of the biggest problems in the world. But there is a lack of professional development and mentoring for data professionals at social enterprises. Often, data scientists or data leads are the “lone soldiers” at their organizations. At beyond.uptake, the civic innovation arm of Uptake, we aim to change that. We provide data for good professionals with the tools and community they need to solve big problems in the social sector.

How We Are Different

The fellow is the data leader at the social enterprise, not necessarily the entrepreneur in the organization.

This fellowship is personalized to what you need to grow your skillset. You are trained on hard skills within data science that correlate to the work you do.

We provide ongoing coaching and mentoring from Uptake’s team based on your skills and preferences.

We connect you to leaders in the ”data for good” ecosystem.
